Faculty Lead: Lydia Bourouiba
Project Description: Professor Bourouiba’s research includes developing risk assessment tools for the transmission of foodborne and crop pathogens with the ultimate goal of improving food safety and economic prosperity. This research has implications for best practices of irrigation and spacing of crops, the area to be discarded in a field upon discovery of an infected plant, recommendations on the types of sprays and chemicals that are optimal to use in fresh food washing and transportation, etc. The IPL is assisting Professor Bourouiba to develop contacts with regulators who would implement these tools.
