Faculy Lead: Daniel Frey
Project Description: Professor Frey is the faculty director of MIT’s D-Lab and has studied food assistance quality on a USAID grant with colleagues across the Institute, while working closely with the agency. This research has shown how food packaging can be used to improve shipment timeliness, cost, and quality (e.g., insect infestation) in US international food assistance programs, which are the United States’ main lever to prevent and alleviate famines abroad. The IPL is assisting in translating these findings into recommendations on using new packaging varieties for food assistance programs and connecting the research team to the relevant policy audiences.
Policy Lab Support: Reviewing policy documents, identifying contacts, preparing for meetings and logistical support
